Religious Studies
Students equipped with prior knowledge will be given revision based sessions to equip them with the skills to sit the GCSE AQA Religious Studies Paper in the Summer term. They will study the beliefs, teachings and practices of Christianity and their basis in Christian sources of wisdom and authority.
Students will study the influence of the beliefs, teachings and practices studied on individuals, communities and societies. They will study the beliefs, teachings and practices of Islam and their basis in Islamic sources of wisdom and authority. They should be able to refer to scripture and other writings where appropriate.
Students learn how followers of Christianity and Islam may respond to issues which arise in each of them. The students are usually equipped with prior knowledge from their previous schools. This further encourages knowledge retention and retrieval; and supports students to make synoptic links between the two papers. We aim to develop student’s ability to express their opinion, so emphasis is placed on oral and written communication. Students learn to articulate and substantiate their opinion using reasoned evidence. This helps foster a positive communal attitude as students are encouraged to engage with ideas and beliefs from other cultures and backgrounds.
